Coney Mountain

One of the best short hikes in the Adirondacks. This 2.2 mile round trip offers an outstanding 360 degree view.

One Thing to Know

During the first full survey of the Adirondacks in the 1880s the summit of Coney Mountain was cleared by Verplanck Colvin and his crew. They installed a mirrored tower that could be sighted from other triangulation peaks.

Coney Mountain is about as easy as a mountain hike can be. And the reward -an open summit with an expansive 360 degree view- is simply outstanding. The views stretch from Goodman Mountain and Mt. Morris closeby to the north, the High Peaks to the east, the mountains along Long Lake in the south, and the vast Adirondack lake country to the west.

The only drawback is that Coney is a very popular hike. The off-highway parking lot holds 4-6 cars but, on a nice summer weekend, expect to find lines of cars parked along the highway. You can avoid the crowds by getting an early start or by hiking the mountain on a weekday.
