One Thing to Know
Lake Lila has played a large role in the history the central Adirondacks. Originally called Smith Lake after a hermit who lived there in the 1850s it was renamed Lake Lila after it was purchased by the Webb family. The Webbs built Nahasne, a great camp that sat on the south shore of the Lake until the state acquired the land in the 1970s.

To reach the Lake Lila parking area and the start of the hike, follow the Sabattis road past the Whitney Wilderness headquarters. The turn to Lila is three miles past the Headquarters entrance. The road passes through private land until just before you reach the parking area. It can be rough and wet.
